May Overlanding Trip-80 Series Day in the Ozarks
We made another trip through the Ozarks; this time as trail leader. We only got everyone lost for about 40 mins (LOL). Thank goodness they were good sports as we accidentally led them down a 4 wheeler trail. Eric did some amazing driving today, getting us out of some significant tight spots. The Land Cruiser performance continues to amaze us.
It was an 8 hr day or so, and tons of fun. We traveled the Eastern side of the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas. We headed North from Atkins, AR and ended near Ben Hur, AR. This particular trail was our first technical challenge in the Land Cruiser. Being new we still get heartburn in certain places on this trail.
Absolutely beautiful scenery! This trail has tons of water crossings (water level was down today), mud holes, steep grades, and rocky terrains. There are some great camping spots we made note of, and a couple of tremendous ones on the Illinois Bayou. Our highest elevation is listed below:
It is so surreal to drive through this type of scene. At times we were driving upstream with the river and not simply across it. Overlanding has allowed us to see and experience parts of Arkansas we would otherwise never have seen.
We enjoyed our day with friends. There are no words to describe the beauty of the sun setting over the Ozarks. We relish the dirt on our faces and the tired muscles. Get out and play with some friends that love adventure!
